Support in the workplace
Equality Act 2010
There is a legal requirement for organisations and companies to make reasonable changes to a working environment to ensure that employees with a disability are able to work effectively in the workplace.
A person has a disability, for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010, if they have a physical or mental impairment and this has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
Not everyone with dyslexia would fall into this category as they have often developed strategies to help themselves in the workplace or they may be in a working environment where dyslexia may have little effect.
An organisation or company should demonstrate that it is meeting the requirements for the Equality Act 2010. For example providing information in an accessible format, special computer software or additional staff support.
