Assessments and School support

I offer a number of types of assessments. These include:

Full Diagnostic Assessment

This is a comprehensive assessment for those requiring in depth knowledge of their learning difficulties.  It usually takes three hours and feedback is provided at the end of the assessment.  A report will be created providing the following information:

  • The full results of all the assessments used
  • A description of the student’s learning profile
  • Recommendations for further support, this can be used by education establishments to support the student.

Skills Update

For those who have already undertaken a full diagnostic assessment, this assessment provides an update and can be used to help teachers support the student.  A report will be created indicating:

  • The full results of all the assessments used
  • Recommendations for further support

Assessment for Access Arrangements – Form 8

As a holder of an Assessment Practising Certificate (SpLD APC) I am qualified to assess for exam arrangements which could include:

  • Extra time
  • The provision of a reader or a scribe
  • Access to a computer

This assessment complies with the requirements of the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).

Assessment for Disability Students’ Allowance

This assessment is designed to provide the necessary evidence required for students (or potential students) in higher education to provide support of dyslexia as a disability to qualify for the Disability Students’ Allowance.

School Support

In addition to the assessments, I offer bespoke support to develop a ‘whole school dyslexia friendly approach’.  This provision will effectively meet the needs of students with learning difficulties.

This includes:

  • Guidance and support:

    • To improve learning environments and provision for students

    • To improve staff knowledge and confidence to identify and meet the needs of pupils with SpLD

    • To ensure resources provided to the students are carefully matched to support and challenge learning.

  • Staff Inset training bespoke to school’s needs.  This may include –
    • Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (SpLDs)
    • Neurodiversity
    • Teaching and Learning
    • Differentiation in the classroom
    • Memory difficulties
    • Metacognition
